Late to Speak!

Q: My son was very late to speak, is it because we speak two languages?

A: Wrong! Research showed that Multilingualism does not lead to delay in language development.

Q: My son’s speech in unintelligible might be hearing loss?

A: Might be! It is important to do an audiogram to rule it out. In case not, we do an evaluation with a speech and language therapist to rule out a phonological disorder.

Q: My son is diagnosed autism, is it because he used to spend lots of time on the phone?

A: Wrong! Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder appearing from birth. But phones increase the symptoms of autism like isolation!

Q: My son flaps his hands, is it autism? 

A: Wrong! Not every child who flaps his hands is autistic. But, if you have concerns, it is better to consult with a neuropediatric to rule  it out.
