Parental Coaching and Training

Our therapists work closely with each child to design personalized therapy plans based on comprehensive assessments, incorporating age-appropriate strategies and engaging activities that reflect each child’s needs, strengths, and goals.

In collaboration with families and educators, we focus on improving:

Applied Behavioral Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a well-established therapeutic approach used to support children with developmental and cognitive delays. It focuses on behavioral modification and the development of essential social, adaptive, and academic skills, empowering children to access and thrive in mainstream educational settings.

At Voice of Joy Therapy Center, we integrate ABA therapy with evidence-based practices and technology to teach functional, communication, academic, and social skills. Our goal is to help children and young adults with developmental delays, learning difficulties, or behavioral challenges gain the tools they need for long-term success. ABA techniques are carefully applied to foster meaningful and lasting behavioral change.

Our individualized ABA programs incorporate a range of methodologies, including:

  • Structured Teaching
  • Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI)
  • Verbal Behavior
  • Pivotal Response Training (PRT)
  • Naturalistic Teaching Approaches
  • Each child receives a personalized program tailored to their unique strengths and areas of need. Our specialists support skill development in self-help, school readiness, communication, social interaction, reading, writing, executive functioning, and theory of mind. Through comprehensive intervention, we aim to nurture independence, confidence, and long-term learning.

School Inclusion

At Voice of Joy Therapy Center, we offer a range of tailored services designed to support children with developmental, behavioral, and learning challenges in both therapeutic and school settings.

  • Adapting lessons for better comprehension
  • Encouraging academic participation and social interaction
  • Fostering independence through strategic prompting and fading
All LSAs are closely supervised to ensure high-quality service through ongoing reviews and training.

We support schools by promoting successful inclusion through:

  • Functional behavior assessments
  • Development and implementation of behavior support plans
  • In-class coaching for teachers and support staff
  • Curriculum and environmental modifications

Transitioning from ABA to school can be complex. We provide:

  • Tailored transition planning across physical, social/emotional, and academic needs

Coaching Parents

  1. Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Parents
At Voice of Joy Therapy Center, we offer a foundational training program that introduces parents to the core principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), a research-based intervention commonly used to support children with autism and developmental delays. This training empowers parents to understand how behaviors are learned and maintained, and how positive reinforcement can be used to teach new skills. Parents will gain practical strategies for promoting communication, play, and self-help skills at home, as well as tools to reduce behaviors that may interfere with learning or daily functioning. The program equips families to confidently apply ABA strategies in everyday situations and to foster meaningful growth in their children.
  2. Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviors
This course is designed to help parents better understand the underlying causes of their child’s challenging behaviors. Through the guidance of experienced behavior specialists, parents learn how to identify behavioral triggers, analyze patterns, and apply effective strategies to reduce aggression, tantrums, avoidance, and other disruptive actions. Emphasis is placed on developing proactive routines, establishing clear expectations, and reinforcing desired behaviors. The training focuses on integrating these techniques into real-life settings—such as mealtimes, bedtime routines, or community outings—empowering families to create more harmonious, structured, and supportive environments for their children.
  3. Building Social Communication Skills
In collaboration with our Speech-Language Therapists, this training supports parents in enhancing their child’s social communication skills, also known as pragmatic language. Parents learn how to foster meaningful interactions by encouraging their child to use language for a variety of purposes—such as requesting, commenting, or asking questions—and to adjust communication based on context. The program introduces strategies for improving conversational turn-taking, eye contact, gesture use, and interpretation of nonverbal cues. It also helps parents model and reinforce social behaviors that build peer relationships, promote emotional understanding, and increase their child’s ability to navigate everyday interactions.
  4. Guide to Toilet Training
Toilet training can be a challenging milestone for children with developmental differences, but with the right approach, it can become a successful and empowering experience. In this training, parents are guided through developmentally appropriate methods for introducing and reinforcing toileting routines. The course highlights signs of readiness, step-by-step procedures, and strategies for building cooperation and communication around toileting. Recognizing that children may need additional supports or adapted techniques, the program emphasizes patience, consistency, and collaboration between the child and caregiver to foster success and reduce stress during the process.
  5. Fun with Feeding
Feeding difficulties are common among children with sensory or developmental challenges, and our “Fun with Feeding” program provides parents with evidence-based strategies to address issues such as food refusal, limited diet variety, and mealtime behavior disruptions. This individualized training introduces parents to behavioral principles that support food acceptance, self-feeding, and mealtime engagement. Through practical exercises, parents learn how to use prompts, reinforcement, and structured routines to make mealtimes more enjoyable and less stressful. The program also helps families create positive associations with food and encourages generalization of feeding skills across home and school settings.
